Open Text Book Examination (OTBE) @ GU – Gauhati University
This is for information to all UG examinees who are appearing in the ongoing OTBE-2021that if during the submission of answer scripts, any error or problem arises due to technical issues on the part of the Examination Computer System of GU, the duration of submission will be automatically extended beyond the designated time so as to compensate the time during which the Examination Computer System might have been unavailable. A message to that effect will be displayed in the submission window .Hereby, the examinees are requested NOT to panic and wait till the system starts working. They are also advised to take screenshots of any such error for later reference.
Important Notification
Help at the college level
Each college will provide a helpline number for their own students, which will be available during the examination for any kind of technical help.
In case a student ultimately fails to upload the answer script within the stipulated time of 1 hour and the additional time of 30 minutes, the student may approach the said helpline number and s/he may be allowed to submit the answer script through email with sufficient proof that there is a genuine failure during the uploading process (see below). This email will be announced by the principals of the respective colleges.
This email will be specific to the college concerned and will be ONLY valid for the students belonging to that college. This email will be made available to the students by the respective colleges.
Proof of failure
In case a student is allowed to submit the answer script by email to the college (after due consultation through the respective helpline number), such email MUST accompany a genuine Proof of Failure that the student has tried to upload the answer script within the stipulated time and also have tried during the additional extra time.
Such Proof of Failure can be a screenshoot of the submission window of the examination portal which MUST clearly show the time at which the the student has tried to upload and also should show the failure message.
This Proof of Failure will then be matched with the record at the examination computer system to validate its authenticity and it will be accepted ONLY when the failure is found to be genuine and authenticated against the log records at the computer system.
The students should contact the respective colleges in this regard.

What is an Open Text Book Examination (OTBE)?
The Open Text Book Examination (OTBE) or Open Book Examination (OBE) is an examination, where a student is allowed to consult books (or study materials) while writing the answers. For all other aspects, the OTBE or OBE is simialr to a traditional examination. It will also have a limited time schedule within which the student needs to write the answers and submit the answer script.
At present, this OTBE (or OBE) will be held online.

Open Text Book Examination (OTBE) বা Open Book Examination (OBE) এনেকুৱা এটা পৰীক্ষা, য’ত পৰীক্ষাৰ্থীজনে, প্ৰয়োজন অনুসৰি প্ৰশ্নৰ উত্তৰ লিখিবলৈ পাঠ্য-পুঠি বা অন্য কোনো অধ্যয়ন সামগ্ৰীৰ সহায় ল’ব পাৰে৷ অন্য সকলো দিশতে, এই মুক্ত পাঠ্য-পুঠি পৰীক্ষা, সাধাৰণতে হোৱা পৰীক্ষাৰ লগত একে৷ এই OTB পৰীক্ষাতো, পৰীক্ষাৰ্থীজনে এটা নিৰ্দ্দিষ্ট সময় সীমাৰ মাজতে প্ৰশ্নৰ উত্তৰ লিখিব লাগিব আৰু পৰীক্ষা বহী জমা কৰিব লাগিব৷

Postgraduate Examinations
Except Assamese and Bengali, postgraduate examinations of all other subjects will be conducted by the respevctive PG departments of GU. All PG examinee (except Assamese and Bengali) are hereby requested to contact their respective departments regarding their examinations. The schedule of such examinations can be found in GU’s General Notification Portal and Examination Notification Portal.
The Examination Procedure
Following are the steps which a student will need to follow in order to appear in the OTBE. The detailed date and respective online links will be published in due course of time.
Prior to the OTBE
The student will need to update his / her mobile number through the IUMS .
The student is advised to visit the Practice OTBE portal for a rehearsal of the whole process.
On the day of the OTBE
The student will need to login to the examination portal using certain credentials.
The student then downloads the respective question paper on his / her device.
The student needs to write the answers using a pen on A4 sheets (for details please see this page) of paper (please also see the limitations on size of the scanned answer sheets to be uploaded).
The student then scans the answer sheets and convert the scanned pages to a PDF (Portable Document Format) file using advised procedure (see below to know how).
At the end of the examination, the students upload the the scanned PDF file(s) to the examination portal.
The upload facility open after half an hour of the commencement of the examination and will remain open up to one hour after the end of the examination.পৰীক্ষা প্ৰক্ৰিয়া

প্ৰতিজন ছাত্ৰ-ছাত্ৰীয়ে পৰীক্ষাৰ দিনা পৰীক্ষাৰ ওৱেব্ চাইট্ ত নিজৰ নিজৰ তথ্যৰ যোগেদি লগ্-ইন্ (login) কৰিব লাগিব ৷
প্ৰতিজন পৰীক্ষাৰ্থীয়ে প্ৰশ্নকাকতখন নিজৰ নিজৰ কম্পিউটাৰ বা স্মাৰ্টফোনলৈ ডাউনলোড্ কৰিব লাগিব ৷
প্ৰতিজন পৰীক্ষাৰ্থীয়ে, পৰীক্ষাৰ উত্তৰ, নিজৰ হাতেৰে, বগা A4 (এ-ফ’ৰ) আকৰৰ কাগজত লিখিব লাগিব (সবিশেষ জানিবলৈ এই পৃষ্ঠা চাওক)৷ পৰীক্ষাৰ্থী সকলে, আপলোড্ কৰিবলগীয়া উত্তৰ বহীৰ, সৰ্বোচ্চ ফাইল্ ৰ আকাৰৰ (file size) প্ৰতিও মন দিয়া উচিত ৷
